A Tauranga 4-year-old diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in January is now in remission.
Alicia Steenson is undergoing treatment for Stage 4 Burkitt Lymphoma in Starship Hospital. Her parents believe the illness may be linked to methamphetamine contamination in the house they rented.
Father Trent Steenson said thepre-schooler this week started her final round of chemotherapy.
"She's definitely in remission. It's just locking it in for definite with this last round now. It's a light at the end of the tunnel.
The family was now living in a Housing New Zealand home in Tauranga after abruptly moving out of the Ohauiti home they rented when tests they paid for revealed there was a high level of methamphetamine present in the house.
Mr Steenson said the family had been forced to leave all their belongings in the Ohauiti home for fear they too had been contaminated.
The family last week took their disputes with the property owner to the Tenancy Tribunal and were awaiting a formal decision.
