Otumoetai Intermediate have continued their strong start to the AIMS Games by knocking off their Mount Maunganui equivalents in a fine footballing spectacle at Blake Park.

A day after winning the cross-country relay for the second time in their history, the kids in the black, green and gold were celebrating again with a 2-1 victory.

The win came courtesy of stunning goals to Scott Walpole and Ashtyn Watson, despite Mount Maunganui defender Joshua Vialoux submitting an early candidate for goal of the tournament to open the scoring.

The left-footed strike, from the edge of the centre circle, found its way into the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Scott's goal came shortly after, leaving Ashtyn to seal the match late with a low, curving thunderbolt after a fast break from a well-defended corner.

The Mount, led down the left by the impressive Luke Griffin, tried their best to even the score but ran out of time against their formidable opposition.
