A Tauranga family who before Saturday night were struggling to make ends meet have won $100,000 on Lotto's Winning Wheel.

NZ Lotteries said the $100,000 was a cash prize and the family could use it how they wanted.
Mrs Lane said it would allow them to get back on their feet.

NZ Lotteries' chief executive Todd McLeay said it was not yet known if the winning ticket was won by an individual ticket holder or a syndicate.
"Experience shows with these very large jackpots that a lot of people start grouping together to buy a ticket, so it could very well be a work, sporting, or social group who have won."
The win eclipses the previous biggest Lotto Powerball prize of $22.4 million, which was won in October 2009 by a player from Manukau. Michele McPherson
