A 14-year old girl led police on a 19km pursuit through Tauranga last night.

Acting Senior Sergeant Tristan Murray said the the girl failed to stop for police sparking a pursuit through Welcome Bay to Mount Maunganui and back to Papamoa.

The chase ended when the teenager drove over road spikes laid by police in Papamoa.

Two 15-year-old girls were passengers in the car, Mr Murray said. The driver was also processed for drink driving.

The girls had been referred to youth aid.
