A $100,000 pump capable of moving 1500 litres of water per second has been installed near the Kaituna Wildlife Management Reserve as part of the Tauranga Eastern Link project.
New Zealand Transport Agency principal project manager Andrew Scott said the pump was an important part of the Tauranga Eastern Link's stormwater
mitigation plan to remove extra run-off created by the larger road surface of the new highway.
The $1.1 million project is one of seven Tauranga Eastern Link projects brought forward to boost the economy and prepare the way for the main construction contract.
The pump will be commissioned this week and the project finished the week after.
