The organiser of a wedding expo is frustrated that a rival show has been cancelled for the second year running, confusing brides-to-be.
A cancellation notice for the Bay of Plenty Wedding Expo has been published on the Eventfinder website.
The expo, billed as a "must see event by soon-to-weds and their wedding
parties", was due to be held at the Tauranga Racecourse on Sunday, May 15. The event was to showcase wedding services including cars, cakes, gowns, venues, photographers, entertainment, jewellers, travel and honeymoon packages, gift registers, celebrants, caterers, suit hire, hair dressers, makeup and beauty specialists, and florists.
The Bay of Plenty Times Weekend attempted to contact organiser Robin Pearce but did not receive a response before publication.
The cancellation has frustrated the organisers of a second wedding show, the Tauranga Wedding and Special Events Show, which will go ahead at Baypark Stadium on May 22. Organiser Menno Quartel said the cancellation of the other show had confused customers. Many people thought it was their show that was cancelled and failed to turn up last year. He feared the same thing would happen this year.
"It's a totally different show," Mr Quartel said.
"Last year [the organiser] cancelled his show two days before our show and it was really damaging to our show."
A highlight of this year's expo would be two weddings that are being held during the event, Mr Quartel said.
