Tauranga's own "little guy from the big top" will be stepping into the ring next weekend to put on a show for his home town.

Kane Harris, better known as Kiwi Pro Wrestling star Lazarus Volt, was looking forward to performing where he works, lives and teaches.

"I'm pretty excited. Every show's a good one, but I'm really looking forward to performing at home. It's been a long time," Mr Harris said.

Mr Harris has been wrestling for six years and performing for five, as well as teaching at his own High Wire Wrestling School in Tauranga.

"The school's going really good. I've got five guys who are going to be at the show, and one of them will be making his debut so he's pretty nervous, as we all are when we first start out," he said.

"They're all excited, too. They're pretty amped. They're a good bunch of guys and they're all local boys, so it'll be good for them to have their families coming along to watch."

Kiwi Pro Wrestling is coming to town from January 20-21 for the first time in more than 20 years.

The main performance is at The Bay's Wrestlefest on the Saturday with two other mini-shows at the Tauranga Leisure Crazy Carnival on Friday.

"That's a bit of a hype show, and it's to inform the crowd about the main event the next night," Mr Harris said.

"But it'll still be just as good a show, there's no keeping us back.

"We're going out there to make ourselves look good and keep everyone interested. I'm looking forward to my match. I'll be putting my title on the line and me and my partner will be taking on a new team that we've never gone up against before. It should be pretty exciting; they're a formidable team.

"We'll be bringing big moves, throwing in some aerial stunts. I do a move called the moon fault, which is where I do a backflip off the top rope, and that usually knocks my opponents around a bit. I'm a small guy so it suits my abilities."

As for the name Lazarus Volt, Mr Harris said it just came to him.

"It suited the persona that I was trying to get out there, which is like a ringmaster in a big top, and the name just sort of followed on when I looked in the mirror. Because of my size, I couldn't really call myself 'power house' or something like that, so it goes with the look, I think."

Both events are at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre and are open to all ages. For more details go to taurangaleisure.co.nz or kiwiprowrestling.co.nz.
