Mount Maunganui College students placed second in the open division of the ASB 2012 Stage Challenge Auckland finals.

Their performance, Cook's Endeavours End, also earned the school excellence awards for its stage crew, visual enhancement and set design and function, drama and soundtrack and costuming characters. First place went to Avondale College and third place to Marist College, both Auckland schools.

The finals were held on Friday night at ASB Theatre The Edge in Auckland.

Event manager Gemma Parry said the performances reflected how Stage Challenge and J Rock were great outlets for youth to creatively express themselves and their values. Mount Maunganui College regularly competes in the Auckland division of the Stage Challenge.

A lack of funding for television filming means there will be no national Stage Challenge final this year.
