An inspiring local women is speaking at TEDx Tauranga Women on Friday 28 October.
Pukehina woman, and mother of two Kylie DellaBarca Steel is the founder and CEO of Fruit of the Pacific and has a motto "to connect, create and celebrate".
"I'm an outward focused person who envisions thebest in people and communities and loves to work with and inspire people to walk toward their full potential," she says.
Audiences will find her particularly interesting because "she is achieving awesome-ness, in her own way, in New Zealand and Vanuatu", says TEDx Women organiser Saraniyaa Sukumaar. "She follows what she preaches. She is a great example for persevering to achieve ones goals."
Despite the title, TEDx Women is not a women-only event, according to Saraniyaa. However, the idea was to create an opportunity for women to have their ideas heard, she says.
"Generally, we have more guys than girls who talk at events like this. It is difficult to get equal footing because most of the speaker nominees are guys. So by having a women-centred event, we are encouraging women to put their idea forward. This doesn't mean men can't come along and listen to these ideas."
The event is organised in conjunction with TEDWomen 2016 Conference at Yerba Buena Centre for Arts in San Francisco.
