Angela King's Welcome Bay home with its water views, blue tones and her art work on the wall is a lifetime away from the heady world of hair she occupies with her business, Salon One the Cove.
My business life is sophisticated. The salon is chrome and black and white and
I spend the whole day listening, solving problems, making women feel good, which I love.
When I come home I just like to sit with no sound. I don't even turn the TV on. My door bell doesn't work on purpose. I have a vege garden in the back which I potter in. I go out the back straight from work with my high heels on and turn the outside light on to see, even if it is late at night, because gardening is so relaxing. I have a spa pool but rarely jump in - I use it as a table for outdoor parties. I feel like my house is very 'earthed' with the water nearby, the wood, the blue colours and the garden. It is my oasis.
I've had Salon One for three years. I had previously been in a great business partnership for 11 years, but it was time to go out on my own. I'd had breast cancer and gone through some other life-changing experience. I wanted to create an experience and a journey for every woman to feel beautiful. It made me realise that doing hair is more than the style, it is about offering a place where women can go and relax, and talk, and learn how to feel good about themselves.
For that reason I wanted to offer the beauty side too which I am passionate about - I am actually a trained makeup artist. At the salon you can even have teeth whitened, IPL, Botox, and cosmetic tattooing.
