The word "illustration" conjures images of childhood days spent devouring books filled with magical images.
In the visual art world, illustrators have sometimes been considered less important in comparison with fine artists, but this could not be further from the truth. Illustration works continue to inspire a feeling that recaptures
those magical fleeting moments as a child and there is a growing interest in collecting and admiring this genre of artwork.
Opening tonight at the Creative Tauranga Gallery is a group exhibition of local illustrative artists. The concept is to celebrate the love of stories through drawing. Artists have chosen a favourite book and then selected a sentence, paragraph or chapter to interpret into an image or series of images.
Whether you are an enthusiast of modern or contemporary art, this exhibition will provide a chance to view some of the region's finest illustration work. Artists included in this exhibition are: Nick Eggleston, Becks Popham, Ani Fourie, Debbie Tipuna, Alexandra Holmes, Florence Thorburn, Estiana Risna, Lillie Herbert, Lesley Robb, Bev Galpin and Rayne Robinson.
Creative Tauranga strives to support and nurture arts in our community and would like to invite you to this exhibition to be held at the Creative Tauranga Community Gallery on the corner of Wharf and Willow Street, Tauranga. Opening night reception today is at 5.30pm so feel free to pop along. The exhibition will run through to July 10.
