TAURANGA audiences will get to hear two "jazz virtuosos of the future'' when the New Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra come to town.
The cream of New Zealand's young jazz musicians will be showing their talents at the Graham Young Youth Centre at Tauranga Boys' College on July 23.
The 18-pieceNew Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra with American trumpet soloist, Scott Wendholt, and vocalist Ella Dunbar-Wilcox from Christchurch, are touring the North Island and will give one concert only in Tauranga on Thursday, July 23 at 5.30pm.
Under the direction of Rodger Fox and Dave Lisik, senior lecturers at the New Zealand School of Music, the musicians will perform a cross section of big band music from jazz standards to original compositions to arrangements from their guest artist - New York trumpeter, Scott Wendholt.
The New Zealand Jazz Foundation sent out audition pieces earlier in the year and the entrants replied with a jazz etude and two improvisations.
The musicians get together next month, under Fox and Lisik's direction with input from Wendholt, and then embark on a five-centre tour from Wellington to Auckland.
