Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy have proved to be an unlikely yet brilliant combination.
The success of The Heat depended on the rapport that these two could develop. But "straight- laced" Bullock and foul-mouthed McCarthy pulled it off to create one of the year's funniest movies.
Uptight FBI agent Sarah Ashburn (Bullock) is extremely ambitious but hampered by a complete lack of harmony with her co-workers. In short, they can't stand her.
Desperate for a promotion, she is given a last chance to prove she can work with others. When she's sent out of town to find a drug kingpin, she meets Boston PD detective Shannon Mullins (McCarthy).
Mullins is hard-nosed and down-to-earth, and she is not going to let Ashburn take over her patch.
After a series of skirmishes, they are ordered to work together to find a drug kingpin. Mullins slowly breaks down Ashburn and the two do what they must to get the information they need.
If you can put aside the profanities that flow freely from the mouth of officer Mullins, you are in for a treat. Her off-the-wall humour and straight-shooting style leave you never knowing what's coming next.Craig Nicholson
