This Saturday, The Strand will be transformed by an array of curious characters and nonsensical objects into a sumptuous feast of musical treats, crazy performances and ridiculous activities.

The Incubator is recreating Wonderland to mark the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland and it wants people to join in for a journey down the rabbit hole. "Spread the word and come dressed up to Wonderland and join in the party," says Incubator manager Simone Anderson. Adults and children are invited to join in, "but make sure you believe in six impossible things before you do!" she says.

"In Wonderland, it's always tea time, and a little further yonder, you'll find a Mad Hatter's Tea Party at the Dry Dock Cafe."

The Creatures of Wonderland will form a procession at 1.30pm and follow the pipers and parade through the city in celebration of this iconic and ageless story.

"This isn't a traditional Santa-type parade, we want people to engage, to join in and connect with the festival."

Wonderland is part of the Tauranga Arts Festival ANZ community day and Simone says the event reflects the core mission of Incubator - cohesiveness and interaction in the arts. "It's a community day - the community becomes the art."
