French flair will combine with the brilliance of young Kiwi muscianship when the Mimosa Ensemble performs in the city.
The ensemble is an exceptional young chamber music group, featuring flute, oboe, bassoon and piano, and will perform a variety of French compositions. They will showcase both individual and combined virtuosity,
with all musicians having completed or are completing study in Europe.
Flautist Hugh Roberts is a student and pianist Somi Kim, a recent graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London. Bassoonist Todd Gibson-Cornish is an undergraduate student at the Royal College of Music, London and oboist Thomas Hutchinson has just completed his study at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris. The wind players have been section principals together in the NZSO National Youth Orchestra and have since variously performed with the New Zealand Symphony, Auckland Philharmonia and Christchurch Symphony orchestras.
Thomas has performed as soloist with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, as winner of the 2011 Australian National Academy of Music concerto competition; Hugh was a prize winner in the 2014 Gisborne international music competition; Todd's freelance work has included playing in the LSO, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra; and in 2015 Somi makes her Southbank debut at the Purcell Room as a Park Lane Group Artist.
