"Meat Loaf is fine." This is the official reassurance from promoters that the hefty rocker will be performing at the TECT Baypark Arena tonight.
Ill health forced Meat Loaf to call off last Friday's Tauranga show after fans had started to pack out the venue. The ageing star recovered enoughby Saturday to turn on a huge performance at Auckland's Vector Arena, earning rave reviews.
Quizzed about whether Meat Loaf would be up to honouring his commitment to Bay fans, Maria Robinson, from promoters The Frontier Touring Company, replied: "He is fine."
She would not disclose how many refunds were being paid out to people who were unable to attend tonight's show. However Ticketek was selling rescheduled tickets for tonight.
One Meat Loaf fan seeking a refund, Sarah Glasgow of Tauranga, was frustrated at the process of trying to get her money back. She bought tickets online for herself and friends, and had the hard copies couriered to her home at an additional cost.
They were at a restaurant just before the show when she was notified about the cancellation. She emailed the promoters and when she heard nothing back, rang Ticketek. However, when she went to the Ticketek agency at Baycourt with her tickets, she was told that Ticketek were no longer handling refunds. Ms Glasgow said she was later told to mail the tickets to a Wellington postal box address, but she was reluctant to part with the evidence that she had not attended the concert. The upshot was that she got another call to say that if she did not want to post them, she could get her refund direct from Ticketek at Baycourt tomorrow.
Brent Eccles, of the Frontier Touring Company, said the ticket situation had become complicated because those in TECT Arena when the concert was cancelled had their ticket stubs removed when they entered. It meant scanning all the tickets tonight to identify those eligible for refunds. Mr Eccles said Frontier Touring had been in business for 20 years and everyone would get their refunds.
