If you'd like to adopt a bit of geek chic this spring, you can do as little or as much as you like.

Have you looked at a runway collection or designer's lookbook lately and wondered when everything got so nerdy?

Lots of designers are embracing geek chic at the moment and encouraging us to express our inner geeks.

What might have been seriously uncool at school is now really on trend. Things like folded ankle socks with dresses, clumpy black shoes and sensible cardigans are everywhere.

If you'd like to adopt a bit of geek chic this spring, you can do as little or as much as you like.

You might swap your contacts for chunky thick-rimmed glasses, or chuck on a pair of Ray-Bans if you aren't ready for the specs look. A collared shirt is a staple of any geek chic wardrobe and should ideally be worn with a pair of tailored trousers - maybe cropped as a nod to skinny-cut trousers and coloured jeans are a big part of the look - sometimes with a cute pair of suspenders.

Pick up a few graphic T-shirts - bonus points if you can find one referencing comic book or Star Wars characters.

It's a trend you can have a lot of fun with. Look to actresses like Keira Knightley for inspiration.
