It takes only a hint of sunshine for me to be mentally packing my bag for the beach.

With warmer days around the corner, now is a great time to make sure you have all the essentials ready for summer afternoons on the sand or by the pool.

It's important to get your skincare right during summer - if you need a really good sunscreen, waterproof cosmetics and a sturdy day cream, you may need a multitasking product like this Family Remedy cream from Human + Kind, which has aloe vera, marigold and tea tree oil to repair skin that's been exposed to the elements.

Sunny weather always calls for a great dress or two - Augustine is a fantastic New Zealand label that appears to specialise in the type of outfits that make you feel summery. Check out their website, www.augustineinternational.co.nz, or outlets around the country.

A bikini is another essential. Whether you spend a lot on your swimwear probably depends on how much time you expect to spend in or next to the water this summer. There are a lot of cute styles around at the moment that will give you your money's worth many times over.

Finish the look with a pair of comfy sandals, pack all your supplies into a tote bag, and you're ready to go.
