If I could offer one piece of advice when it comes to clothes shopping, it would be to give things a go. I always see women pre-judge an item of clothing before they've even given it a chance; it's not its fault it lacks hanger appeal.

When I take women on a styling and shopping session, I select loads of clothes for them to try on; they'd be lucky if they pick one or two. Time and time again, they are pleasantly surprised at how amazing they look in styles different to what they'd normally choose.

I recently did a makeover of a woman who was size 16 and 1.52m. She always wore loose-fitting clothes to downplay her figure. She was stunned at how fabulous she looked in figure-hugging dresses. And she looked slimmer too.

Seek the sales assistant's help in putting together different outfits, different style combinations - they know their range better than anyone and what works.

Experiment with colour too - when you find a style you like, try it in as many colours as they have on offer. Does the colour flatter you, make you look healthy and glowing or does it show up the imperfections on your face, perhaps make you look tired, sick or even older? If the latter, obviously stay well clear.

Relax when you shop. Go when you're in the mood, and wear comfortable clothes and footwear that are easy to slip in and out of.

I also encourage people to shop as if money were no object, that way they tend to relax and enjoy it even more. Consider the budget when you need to, don't let it get in the way of a play.
