The Echo Walking Festival is in its 13th year and is encouraging people to take in the sights of McLaren Falls next week.
The festival aims to enable residents to take part in their local parks and reserves and Stephen Parr, secretary of the BoP Tree Society, will be guiding
the walk.
Over the past 50 years the society has created a botanical oasis at the park, planting thousands of trees and Stephen will be showing walkers some of the well known walks as well as some areas of the park that people may not be aware of.
"When people come into the park, they are often driving and go to the areas where there are wide open spaces. I can show them some of the more secret places that are really quite magical," he says.
The park has a major botanical collection which, in combination with the lake, gives Tauranga something that other cities don't have, he says.
