Operanasia is coming to Tauranga for the first time and it's music to the ears of Waipuna Hospice fundraising manager Trish Rae.

Operanesia is a collaboration between four classically-trained singers who all hail from Auckland via the Pacific Islands of Samoa and Tonga.

The friends formed the group to raise funds for study at the prestigious New Zealand Opera and Singing Schools last summer.

Following the huge success of their debut concert, they have enjoyed success performing at many events in Auckland as well as radio appearences.

They are performing in Tauranga this month to raise money for the Waipuna Hospice and Trish says the concert is going to be "win-win for everyone".

"Individually they are very accomplished opera singers, and together they perform a variety of music including contemporary, opera and barbershop, so it's going to be very popular with many audiences," she says.

The Waipuna Hospice has a funding shortfall of $2.5 million and she says this formidable challenge means fundraising concerts are a necessity for the organisation.

Legacy Trust is sponsoring the event by bringing the performers to the city. "Their generosity means we can put on an amazing concert and that every single dollar raised goes back to the Waipuna Hospice and is spent on our patients' care," Trish says.

The group consists of Samoan baritones, Joel Amosa and Benson Wilson and Tongan tenors Kalauni Pouvalu and Taunoa (Noah) Filimoehala all graduates of university music courses.

Their infectious humour, incredible vocal talent and obvious love of music infuses their concerts, and they are adept at many vocal styles from classics such as You Raise Me Up, to barbershop, opera and Polynesian medleys of tunes such as the Old Rugged Cross.

In addition to performing together as Operanesia, the concert will feature solo pieces from the each of the singers.
