In World War Z Brad Pitt stars as a UN special agent in a race against time to stop a zombie pandemic that, ultimately, threatens to destroy humanity.

I guess we've all lain awake wondering when the world as we know it will be attacked by zombies.

Luckily, when that time comes, United Nations' special agent Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) will be there to save us.

In the past decade it seems zombies, werewolves, vampires and other creatures of a similar ilk have become hot property on the movie scene.

It is not enough to be human and evil, it seems. You need to have a little bit extra.

In World War Z, a zombie starts infecting people in Asia and the epidemic of the undead soon spreads across the world.

We meet Gerry and his family in the US as panic grips the country.

A retired UN operative and now family man, Gerry is encouraged to rejoin the service, both to save his family and save the world.

But the only way to stop the zombies from infecting everyone on the planet is to discover the origin of the infection in the hope that may provide a clue to reversing the calamity.

With little to work on, Gerry faces daily battles just to avoid becoming a zombie himself.

He goes to countries in Asia then Israel seeking clues but it is an observation he makes of those the zombie chose not to attack that gives him an idea.

If he can get to a World Health Organisation centre in Wales, he may be able to make a vaccine that may just give the world a chance.

Although the zombies are rather horrific creatures, this isn't all about their horror. There is a reasonable story behind the plague and Gerry's fight to rescue his people.
