Despicable Me 2

(PG) Universal

The colourful and endearing Minions are back and getting into as much trouble as usual.

But this sequel to the highly successful original is more about Gru (Steve Carell) fighting an evil enemy while, at the same time, finding love.

The Anti-Villain League needs Gru's inside help after a super-secret Arctic science laboratory is stolen with its dangerous secrets hidden away inside.

Gru has put his villainous ways behind him and is now playing the role of the all-round caring father.

But the AVL needs him urgently to find the villain who, with one injection, can turn creatures into angry and deadly enemies.

He must delve into his former life to find who has this formula and stop them using it.

New AVL recruit Lucy (Kristen Wiig) is assigned to him and Gru is soon smitten.

Lucy occupies his every thought but he doesn't know what to do about it.

So, between fighting evil, finding love and keeping his children safe, Gru is a busy boy.

He suspects El Macho (Benjamin Bratt) is behind it all and, even worse, El Macho's teenage son is making moves on Gru's eldest daughter, Margo.

Despicable Me 2's makers have not strayed far from a winning formula in turning out another fun and colourful children's fantasy romp.
