DJs launch multi-genre dance event

Totara St is hosting Higher Place, a multi-genre music event bringing a range of musical styles to the city.

Created by Miro Wilshier and Ben Stewart, the local DJs felt that Tauranga was missing a dance and alternative music culture and Higher Place is their solution.

Miro and Ben have been making waves in the local house party scene for a year now and accompanying them on the line-up is headline DJ, Thomas Hill.

Another local, Thomas is one of the premier dance music DJs in the North Island and has performed at a number of clubs all over New Zealand.

Opening the night is Wellington's Into Orbit.

"A dynamic duo of guitar and drums, their immersive, genre-defying sound contains aspects of experimental rock, polished prog, ambience and drone," say Miro and Ben.

"They have done a number of shows across the country, and opening the night with a different flavour of music will add to the wide range of genres that we are trying to bring together at Higher Place."

Lady Rain and Khaleesi (Here Lies the Homunculi) are playing second in the line-up.

"They give a live performance of alternative electronic music, with Khaleesi bringing strong female vocals and Lady Rain bringing rap elements."

The Wellington based duo, both 21, already had a large catalogue of released music.
