The humble candle holder needs modernisation, so we came up with this less feminine, non-kitsch design. The great thing about Sculpey (oven bake clay), is that you can mix it up to create a faux marbled effect. We also created an on-trend granite effect. Makeover complete.

Modern Candle Holders
You
will need:
6 x 57g Sculpey
Cookie Cutters (various sizes)
Rolling pin
Glue
We found all these supplies at Spotlight.

1 Soften each block by rolling in your palms. Remember to wash your hands in between colours.

2 Roll into balls, and then roll flat into different thicknesses of at least 1cm.

3 For a marbled effect, mix balls of different colours. The more you mix, the more diluted the effect. For granite, cut small flakes of a contrasting colour and lightly roll in. A really fun step.

4 Measure the diameter of the candle and make some with holes wide enough to fit snugly.

5 Once you have enough rounds, bake in the oven according to directions.

6 Stack the different colours according to taste, and glue together.

7 Insert candle into super original candle holders.

TIP: Roll extra thick rounds and cut circles out for napkin rings.
