Lovers of relaxed blues and jazz music should head to Mills Reef winery tomorrow night to check out Hot Sandwich Club from Wellington in concert with local band Kokomo.
The bands will be playing separately as well as together and it promises to be a night with "comfort food forthe ears".
"This is a reciprocal concert after Hot Club Sandwich invited us to Wellington to do some shows with them at the end of last year", said Kokomo's Derek Jacombs, pictured.
When asked about their band name Derek explains that Kokomo Blues, as it was when they started out, came from the Kokomo Arnold song The Old Original Kokomo Blues.
"It's one of the greatest slide guitar pieces I've ever heard."
Kokomo started out in 1991 with a performance at the New Zealand National Jazz Festival and since then they have toured relentlessly.
"That's pretty much how it continues to this day, though we do spend a little less time on the road now."
Tomorrow night also brings the launch of The Self-Righteous Brothers' second CD. This is an off-shoot of Kokomo, a duo with Derek on acoustic guitar and Nigel Masters who plays upright bass.
