For women lusting after the tresses of Kim Kardashian, lust no more. You don't have to be born with a great head of hair to get Kim's look. Rumour has it she regularly gets hair extensions.

The process does take some commitment but extensions can be great solutions for those wanting to add thickness and volume to fine hair, or who want a dramatic length or colour change, says Jess, who has just started offering extensions at Sarah and The Styling Room in the new hair salon at Sisters & Co.

"Some people think they will be a big hassle to look after but, in fact, you just treat them like normal hair. You can create more versatile styles as you have more hair to play with."

Jess says the extension type depends on what you want. She does tape-in, clip-in and pony tail extensions (watch out for pony tail pullers).

"If it's something for a special occasion, you would go for clip-ins but, if you're wanting volume, length or to fill in empty gaps in your hair, then the tape-ins would suit best if you're looking for something permanent. I advise not to sleep with clip-ins as they could get knotted in your hair."

Jess says extensions can be a great solution between styles if you are growing your hair. They can be colour matched or used to add colour to hair.

"Popular at the moment is putting a few different colours through the hair. It is a way to experiment with colour. They are 100 per cent human hair so you can straighten and curl just like your own hair. You can also get them cut and blended in to your real hair."

Jess says clip-ins will last a long time if you take care of them and tape-ins require maintenance every six weeks.
