Get ready for a sweaty night of Afrobeat funk when Batucada Sound Machine play in the city this weekend.
Local man Joel Shadbolt is one of the Auckland-based band's most recent members, sharing lead singer duties.
The band is well-known in the European music festival scene and its combination offunky brass with samba beats has won over a legion of followers.
The band has toured in Europe during the past five years and Shadbolt says he is looking forward to getting over there soon. "The Germans in particular seem to love our sound."
In the meantime, the Mount College old boy is more than happy to play to a hometown audience, where they will be performing a mix of new and old songs.
