The musical entertainment for the Bay of Plenty's newest festival has been confirmed.

Four local bands will rock the stage at the inaugural Flavours in the Bay festival, held at Blake Park on Saturday March 10, 2012.

Five O'Clock Shadow, Hurricane Tilly, Sharmin and The Deeds offer a variety of sounds, from reggae and RnB to acoustic soul and rock, and a bit of everything in between.

Playing in front of an energetic crowd is "exhilarating", said lead guitarist of The Deeds, Marcel Stannard.

He and the other four members of the band were looking forward to getting on stage and performing to local fans.

"They're the most important, local fans are the best and they're part of what we do," he said.

"If it wasn't for them supporting us, we wouldn't be doing what we are doing."

The reason being they just want to support local music and promote their new album which is due to be released in the New Year.

Stannard said he got more excited than nervous when he was on stage.

"I love it, the boys all love performing. We can't wait, the bigger the crowd the more we rise to the occasion."

The Deeds have played alongside Opshop, the Feelers, 48 May, Katchafire, Kora and The Exponents.

Bay of Plenty Times marketing manager Samantha Dowling said the aim of the festival was to celebrate local food, wine and entertainment.

"There is plenty of great music being made in Tauranga and a pool of amazing local talent including some very up and coming acts," she said.

"We wanted Flavours in the Bay to be an opportunity to showcase and support some of our local artists and provide guests the chance to enjoy some brilliant local music they may not have heard."

As well as live music, Flavours in the Bay the will feature 20 local wine and food stalls as well as diverse workshops and competitions for everyone of all ages.

The bands will perform a variety of original and cover songs throughout the day that "will get you up out of your seats", Ms Dowling said.

Flavours in the Bay will be a fun filled event for the whole family.

So if you are stuck for Christmas gift ideas, festival tickets for the event can be bought for $20 from TicketDirect.
