Kay Tasma is this year's winner of the The Acorn Foundation: Jan Medlicott Creative Arts Award. She is currently studying at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design and was chosen from nine applicants who fit the criteria of being students currently enrolled in creative tertiary study, who either reside in,or were educated in the Bay of Plenty.
Kay grew up in Waihi and was educated at Tauranga Girls College. She won $2000 which will go towards the cost of her studies.
Her application particularly impressed the selection panel due to her obvious dedication to her artistic education and the way she has worked hard to support herself financially through her studies.
Creative Bay of Plenty's new general manager, Lena Kovac, says, "We are so happy to see that this award goes to such a deserving recipient. We look forward to following Kay's creative career after her graduation."
The award was presented last Thursday at the opening of the latest exhibition at Creative Bay of Plenty, Simpson Grierson Gallery.
