Abstract makes perfect sense with talented pair

Two vibrant artists are exhibiting at The Incubator, which has been anticipating a great reaction to the Stella and Jackie Show.

Stella Clark and Jackie Gray have their own distinctive styles, yet the works seem to complement each other favourably, says Incubator manager Simone Anderson.

Clark and Gray share the abstract genre.

When viewed, the images in these works translate themselves and make perfect sense - a definite talent in a genre often found to be unintelligible.

Gray was born in the UK and came to New Zealand at an early age, started her art education in the US while on an extended OE. She uses a combination of diverse texture, layers, shape and light to create mysterious and peaceful combinations of content and colour.

Her work has a unique feel as her watercolourist grounding blends with the mixed media to provide interest and continual discovery. Gray's work has been collected in the UK, United States and New Zealand and has exhibited at the Parnell Gallery in Auckland.

Clark is from Omokoroa and draws inspiration from local land and seascapes using colour, texture and line to express her view of these local scenes.

Most recently, Clark has been exploring more abstract and larger works via the mediums of paint/mixed media and collage.

She favours pleasing blends of brilliant turquoise and aqua, which give her distinctive and modern portrayal of local scapes.

Since her Massey University bachelor of design (hons), Clark has been painting prolifically as a member of the Omokoroa artists group, and is an artist-in-residence with the Incubator at the Historic Village.
