Charlie Dempsey has announced he will retire because of the harassment he and his family have received.
The Oceania Football Confederation President made the statement after emerging from a meeting of the Confederation in Auckland.
He says the executive has accepted his reasons for failing to follow orders and vote for South Africa's World Cup bid.
However, he says after all the media harassment he will retire at the end of September because he cannot accept what has taken place over the last three days.
Mr Dempsey declined to comment further, saying he would be making a full statement tomorrow.
