It was a good Sunday morning for the Union Boat Club and the Team Toyota Wanganui rowing eight as they won the support races to the main event of the Billy Webb Challenge.
UBC won the 700m sprint race, which consisted of a relay of three stages with singles, pairs and doubles. Once a single had completed their leg, that team's pair could start, with the double taking off when they had finished.
The Collegiate 1 team made a good start, but UBC took the lead by the pairs and then held it through the doubles.
Collegiate 1 finished second, with Aramoho Wanganui Rowing Club's 'Fast Five' in third, followed by Collegiate 2 and Wellington's Capital City Crew.
UBC's winning team was Brennan Knopf, 17 (single scull), Donovan Thompson and Kurt Browning, 16 (pair) and Jayde Hawkes, 15 and Steph Weston, 16 (double).
All of them attend Cullinane College.
The sprints were followed by the Corporate Eight's final where the Team Toyota Wanganui squad saw off the Collegiate Parents eight to win the race.
