Balloons, merchandise and buckets full of freshly picked daffodils covered the floors at the Whanganui Cancer Society yesterday.
All in preparation for New Zealand's annual Daffodil Day - a day aimed to raise awareness on the support available to cancer patients.
Cancer Society Wanganui centre manager, Jane Beamsley, said last year the daffodils didn't grow in time but this year the local society has collected 30 buckets and they all smell beautiful.
"We have around 200 volunteers who will be dispersed around 26 locations around Whanganui central on Friday and five locations on Saturday," Ms Beamsley said.
There will also be stands set up in Marton, Taihape, Ohakune, Raetihi and Bulls.
Ms Beamsley said last year the society had 186 cancer patients from the Whanganui, Rangitikei and Wamarino regions signed up to the support group.
"All the money stays locally so we can keep support the patients in our region.
Cancer patients living in Whanganui receive treatment in Palmerston North. The Cancer Society provides transport for these patients as well as one on one and group support, massage therapy and health promotion on prevention of cancer.
Ms Beamsley said last year in Whanganui they blew it out of the water raising $64,000.
"We hope to beat that this year but I really want to say thank you to all our volunteers and sponsors."
