The Wanganui Orchid Society is inviting former members to celebrate its 50th anniversary in October.
President Kath Bourne said it is one of the oldest orchid clubs in New Zealand, with only one or two others active for 50 years.
"We are trying to contact former club members to invite them to come and help us celebrate," Mrs Bourne said.
"We have our annual show coming up in October but this one, our golden anniversary show, will be bigger than usual. We have wholesalers coming from as far away as Auckland and Rotorua and we will be having a celebration dinner on the Saturday night."
The society currently has about 40 members, with a wide age range. The youngest is a secondary school student and the longest serving are foundation member Graham Robertson, who previously lived in Whanganui, and his wife Jean. They live in Feilding and travel to Whanganui most months for the society's meetings.
