While the steam train drew the crowds over Vintage Weekend, another group of steam enthusiasts was getting into the vintage theme.
At its headquarters in Taupo Quay, Steamrail Wanganui had a collection of track-gang maintenance vehicles on display, and were offering visitors rides along the tracks.
President Blair Jordan said not all were steam-powered - there were were four motor trolleys.
"Our oldest one is a hand-powered vehicle from the early 1900s. All except one of these vehicles is from Wanganui. That's what we're really about - helping to preserve Wanganui's history," Mr Jordan said.
Steamrail Wanganui also had a steam crane on display.
Mr Jordan said the mornings had been busy, but there were fewer visitors in the afternoon.
