A young woman has admitted giving false details about stolen property to beef up an insurance claim.
Ataria Tarati Herekiuha pleaded guilty to giving a false statement when she appeared in the Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Police prosecutor Stephen Butler said Herekiuha reported a theft in April, saying her car had been broken into and thieves had taken her laptop and iPhone.
When questioned further Herekiuha admitted she had lied about the make and model of the phone, and told police she made the false statement "in order to benefit financially from an insurance claim", Mr Butler said.
Defence lawyer Richard Leith said Herekiuha had suffered a "series of burglaries" recently.
