Five foreigners who have made Wanganui their home will soon be showing the nation around their neighbourhood.
Eric Dorfman, Prakash Patel, Renata Szarvas, Vijeshwar Prasad and Yumi Mizuno will appear on Neighbourhood, a documentary about migrants who have settled in New Zealand.
Screening at 11am Sunday on TV One, each episode is based in a different neighbourhood and explores four strands that look at creativity, food, politics and treasure from a cultural perspective unique to that neighbourhood.
Neighbourhood breaks with the traditional documentary format in that each episode is presented by someone from the community and the people tell their own stories. The Wanganui episode will be presented by Dr Dorfman, who is director of the Whanganui Regional Museum.
Dr Dorfman, who is originally from the United States, does not know how the producers of the show heard about him. "They just rang me out of the blue," he said. "I spent a very long day with the crew, traipsing about all over the place."
