WAIRARAPA MP John Hayes doesn't want you to know his views on whether same sex couples should be allowed to marry, saying his opinion is irrelevant.
But he does want to know what you think on the issue.
Mr Hayes is canvassing local opinion ahead of a vote on MP Louisa Wall's private member's bill, which would amend the Marriage Act to stipulate that marriage can be between two people regardless of gender.
I respect his intention to vote according to the majority view of his electorate and try to reflect their will rather than his own opinion.
But it's a big job to undertake a single-handed canvass of the whole electorate and come up with a clear majority view.
