Former national champion Dean Waddell clinched his second Auckland supersaloon title at the Waikaraka Park speedway last weekend.
The final heat was cancelled due to rain but by finishing third behind Kevin Moore and national champion Peter Hemi, he maintained the points lead he shared with Murray Pierce going into the race.
Pierce found the going tough despite a strong drive and had to meet former titleholder Moore in a four-lap run-off to decide the minor places, Moore edging away to claim second.
The final night of the season produced tons of drama with some races staged to a last-car-moving conclusion, but the non-contact modified division produced the biggest thrills and collisions.
Crowd favourites Philip Game and Jamie Fox were pitched in battle when Game broke a shock absorber and rode out a wild flip that almost threw him into the pit enclosure.
The in-form Garry Parker was also a major casualty in an incident with Mal Hills when the two came together in Town Bend and Parker's car rode over a wheel.
Superstock driver Vic Neal also featured in a nasty incident when his Toyota V8 was slammed into a stationary car and rolled.
