Ingrid Hipkiss had a fabulous time on a girls' trip to Koh Samui, with her colleague Amanda Gillies.
What was your greatest holiday?
I had a fabulous time on a girls' trip to Koh Samui, with my colleague Amanda Gillies. Super relaxing just doing exactly what we wanted when we wanted: going to the beach, massages, shopping, reading and cheap, delicious food. Although we did find ourselves on a group tour that included a nude sauna, which I don't think we've ever recovered from.
And the worst?
I've often regretted trying to leave Auckland by car for a long weekend.
If we bump into you on holiday, what are you most likely to be doing?
Hopefully relaxing in the sun with a book, and with my extremely well-behaved children playing happily nearby.
If we could teleport you to one place in New Zealand for a week-long holiday, where would it be?
It would make sense to go to the other end of the country. Queenstown would be wonderful, then maybe reverting to a traditional form of transport to take in the beautiful South Island.
How about for a dream holiday internationally?
What's the dumbest thing you've ever done when travelling?
Left my passport on a shop counter after a weekend in Amsterdam — luckily times were different, and they let me back into the UK on a faxed photocopy of my passport.
Complete this sentence — I can't travel without ...
... being highly organised, I find spontaneity very stressful, I even schedule down time. I'd also struggle without my iPhone.
What's the best travel tip you've ever been given?
Pack light — it's advice I aspire to follow, but haven't quite managed yet.
What was the most memorable meal you've had while travelling?
A burger at Mr Wimpy in Zimbabwe. It came after seven weeks of suspect meals during a trip on a truck through Africa, the sight of a semi-well-known burger chain was gold — even though there was a staple in the patty.
What's the best thing you've brought back from a trip?
I'm not really one for souvenirs, so probably just memories. In the past few years I've had the chance to catch up with friends from high school and watch our kids get to know each other.
Favourite airport to land at?
Auckland International Airport, it really is a great airport, it signals "home" and they pipe native birdsong through the place when you arrive — genius.
