Northern Territory officials are considering legal action over a guerrilla marketing campaign aimed at getting tourists to visit the Top End.
A shocking take on stock-standard tourism campaigns has riled government officials in Australia's far north.
A campaign for the Northern Territory purporting to be from an official source appeared online this week, with a rather surprising slogan.
Images from the campaign tell tourists they'll "See you in the NT" — with the letters C and U standing in for the words themselves.
The confusingly named "Official NT" takes credit for the slogan.
However, while it might not seem surprising to anyone who's read about the eccentric exploits of Territorians, it's not actually an official campaign.
"We are a fronted by a guerrilla group of people with the aim of promoting travel awareness to the Northern Territory region," a spokesperson told Mashable.
"We want people to recognise that if they want to go to the NT they shouldn't hesitate. They should just go . . . "
While the group has a social media presence and an official-looking website selling shirts emblazoned with the lewd slogan, it might not be around for much longer.
Government tourism officials are looking to take legal action over the campaign, news.com.au reported, but it's not necessarily to do with the words involved, but rather the images — which were official Tourism NT photographs lifted from its website.
But first, they'll have to find out who's responsible — and reportedly, government officials have yet been unable to contact the people behind the risque travel merchandise.
