Online tool being developed
Fonterra and Livestock Improvement Corporation are in the final stages of developing an online tool, Agrigate, designed to make it easier for farmers to access key data about their farming business, improve performance benchmarking, make smarter and faster decisions, and better manage environmental information such as nutrient management. Fonterra Farm Source chief operating officer Miles Hurrel said it was due for release next month.
Shearing record broken
Two Welshmen last week became the first from their country break a world shearing record in New Zealand. Te Kuiti-based Delwyn Jones and Matthew Evans, who arrived in New Zealand last month to prepare for the record bid, joined Ryan Miller, from Gore, in breaking the three-stand eight hours record for strongwool lambs. At Mangapehi, off State Highway 30 between Te Kuiti and Benneydale, they shore 1825, adding 41 to the previous record of 1784 set by King Country shearers Digger Balmer, Roger Neil and Dean Ball 18 years ago.
