Local farmers now have the option of supplementing their dairy stock's feed with a fresh microbial additive, following the launch of Biobrew Probiotics in Eltham last week Friday.
South Taranaki mayor Ross Dunlop, who has a dairy herd of 500, was one of the honorary guests who were given a sample to trial.
The company is so confident of its product that it says it will give all farmers who want to give it a go a sample for a couple of weeks to try before they buy.
``We are the first in New Zealand to offer a fresh microbial option.
``It does not replace sunshine and grass, but work with it.
``It is one more tool in farmers' tool belt,'' says Andre.
``Worldwide research shows that this is the way to go to meet the demand on stock produce.''
He says the product has been engineered to be compliant with all set regulations and standards.
The product is decanted and distributed by Eltham company Wonder Minerals. Chris Blain says he expects that this development will in future add at least two more members to his staff.
The product is manufactured at one Waikato and two South Island sites, but Andre says a third on the North
Island might soon be necessary and that Taranaki is one of the options being considered.
``BioBrew is a young company that has been in operation for three years, providing a truly world leading product to farmers at a fraction of the cost of other inferior products.
``We are now working on relationships with other entities that have sales and delivery infrastructure, such
as Wonder Minerals, to establish the service structures we feel are needed in each local market area.
``It is the establishment of our relationship with Wonder in Taranaki that we have launched the product on Friday,'' says Andre.
