One vote was all it took to delay the decision to purchase a small dwelling to house a farm worker at the Stratford District Council's dairy farm.
At last Tuesday's meeting councillors were presented with a recommendation to purchase a $40,000 stand alone accommodation unit to house the farm labourer, who currently lives off site.
Mayor Neil Volzke explains that as part of the contract, the current share-milker is obligated to hire a second worker to ensure there are two workers in the milking shed at all times.
The council is contractually obligated to provide and maintain accommodation for the share-milker and their employee.
"As the current worker is not a family member of the share-milkers, it is necessary that we provide them with some onsite accommodation."
