40 hand knitted poppies were arranged to form the wreath placed by mayor Neil Volzke at Saturday's Anzac services. Margaret Vickers, of Central Taranaki Provincial Rural Women, says she wanted to create a wreath that connected Stratford with the rest of the country "with the knitted poppy syndrome that has taken off thought New Zealand". Margaret says two women of the Skinner Road Branch of Rural Women NZ, Gwen Nicol and Carol Commerer, knitted the poppies so that she could create a wreath for Neil to lay at the dawn service.
Neil says he was honoured to lay such a special wreath and acknowledges all those who were involved in creating it.
