The Eltham Junior Rugby Club held its first prizegiving on Sunday at the Eltham Rugby Football Club Hall on Railway Street.
It marked the end of a successful first season for the club's mixed under 6, under 7 and under 9 boys' teams following a lull of six or so years.
The idea for the resurgence of the club came after Eltham rugby stalwarts and supporters Patty Heta, Te Aorangi Dillon, Matthew Francis, Noho Robinson and Harry and Audra Anneff got together. They'd heard whispers from a few parents that their kids wanted to play. It seemed logical to start the club again, given Eltham's strong rugby traditions.
Forty-five kids registered for the season and the club hopes to grow those numbers next year. A registration day is planned for February 21 in Eltham. The club will continue fundraising and promotion in the meantime.
