Carter Holt Harvey is donating 245ha of mostly virgin forest in the Utakura Valley northwest of Kaikohe to the conservation organisation Project Crimson.
The gift will be formalised at a ceremony at the Mokonuiarangi Marae on Saturday.
The forest land contains mature kauri and dense stands of rimu, kahikatea, totara, matai and kawaka.
Of special interest to Project Crimson, which puts its effort into preserving the crimson flowering pohutukawa and rata trees, the land also contains northern rata, flowering white rata vines and yellowrata.
The land is between two Department of Conservation blocks. Together the three blocks of Hokianga forest put about 500ha of land under protection.
Carter Holt Harvey is Project Crimson's main sponsor.
The managing director of the company, Chris Liddell, says the donation marks Carter Holt Harvey's "ongoing commitment to the environment and protecting natural ecosystems."
