A winning start for New Zealand's top men's tennis player with his new partner.

Michael Venus and Swede Robert Lindstedt have won through to the second round of the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Croatian Ivan Dodig and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic.

It is the first tournament together for the new combination after Croatian Mate Pavic and Venus went their separate ways.

It was the first career win at ATP 500 level for Venus.

Venus and Lindstedt will play third seeds Raven Klaasen (South Africa) and American Rajeev Ram in the quarter-finals
