The New Zealand Olympic tennis doubles pairing of Michael Venus and Marcus Daniell have suffered a shock loss at an ATP Challenger tournament in Spain.

The top seeds have been beaten 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 in the super tie break by a Spanish pairing, in their only tournament together before heading to Rio.

It was their first tournament together as a pair this year.
